Poppintree Youth Project – Participatory Design
We have broken ground on the Landscape Design + Build Workshop in Ballymun. This workshop is a key component of the Conflict Resolution Action Program initiated by the Poppintree Youth Project. We are working with a group of youths aged 17 to 20 to revitalise abandoned ground and turn it into a positive community space. The project aims to reduce conflict and promote positive community interaction.
The Landscape + Design component of the project started with a group design session using a to-scale interactive sand model of the site and preference boards showing possibilities for what could be done. The group voted on preferences and worked on the model. Based on the group’s consensus design, I drafted a concept plan.
We are now implementing what is hoped to only be Phase 1 of more to come! We are working on the main feature of the site which will be viewed as a welcome feature to Ballymun.
The photos below show current progress as of April, 30th, 2012 as well as the steps that got us to where we are now.
