St. Teresa’s Gardens Community Space Featured on RTE 1 Nationwide, 7pm, June 28th, 2013
A special program on St. Teresa’s Gardens will feature our community open space project! Nationwide, RTE ONE, 7pm, June 28th, 2013.
I facilitated a process whereby residents, Regeneration Board staff, DCC, and interested neighbors developed a vision for a previously derelict piece of land at the core of the existing estate. A series of ideas where developed to regenerate the space and a road-map (masterplan) to guide future community projects was prepared. It is intended that this work will trigger new interest and energy to improve the local external environment.
Recently, I ran our first workshop which taught local kids, residents, community centre staff, and Regeneration board members how to design and build timber planters, plant fresh local veggies, and maintain a small raised bed garden. This will be the first in a series of workshops which will be run by various local groups in the community space.
RTE’s Nationwide program was there on the day to film and interview participants. Nationwide is doing a special series on St. Teresa’s Gardens focusing on its past and the state of its regeneration. The community space we are developing seeks to not only beautify the land previously occupied by derelict buildings, but also contribute to the process of regeneration by working with residents to help cultivate a community space from the ground up.
